No specific fandom/theme today. Just a few more social media responses to Black Lives Matter protests and the fight for racial justice, mostly from awesome Black people in Hollywood.
John Boyega didn't post this on his Twitter, but it's been making the rounds on social media, a snippet from a speech he made at a protest:
“Black lives have always mattered. We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting,” @johnboyega just told #BlackLivesMatter protesters in London’s Hyde Park pic.twitter.com/P49cbwIp6P— Haley Ott (@haleyjoelleott) June 3, 2020
Orlando Jones has been a warrior to me ever since he stood up for Nicole Beharie during the Sleepy Hollow days. Here he is offering condolences after Rayshard Brooks's murder, care of Mr. Nancy:
Sending love to my Atlanta fam. #RayshardBrooks deserved better. I got no words for any of this. Keep ya head up. Let's slay demons one at a time. pic.twitter.com/3MTzCsfgem— Orlando Jones (@TheOrlandoJones) June 13, 2020
Here's Gabrielle Union responding with love and support to a fierce video from Keke Palmer:
Exactly this!!! We must rally around, lift up and provide work for everyone that is speaking out. We have to be our own safety net. We gotchu. https://t.co/gC7TZWVE4e— Gabrielle Union (@itsgabrielleu) June 3, 2020
Strong insight from Jordan Peele on how police officers react to being filmed:
The look on a cops face when they realize they’re being filmed says everything. Rage and fear. Their life flashes before their eyes. A glance at a partner; unsure if they should stop the assault they’re commiting or go get the camera.— Jordan Peele (@JordanPeele) May 31, 2020
For them accountability is violent.
Ava DuVernay shared this clip of a CNN broadcast with Chris Cuomo and called on white people to do their part:
White people talking to white people. More of this please. If you’re white and you believe yourself not to be racist, yet you don’t talk to your white friends like this or stand up beyond tweets for Black people... you simply aren’t who you think you are. pic.twitter.com/hUjJsZ0iFv— Ava DuVernay (@ava) May 31, 2020
